Location
Cape Greco was designated as a National Forest Park in 1993. It is a relatively unspoilt area with great natural beauty which changes and offers something different each season. It is an oasis of tranquillity nestled midway between the busy resorts of Ayia Napa and Protaras.
A small chapel dedicated to Agioi Anargyroi is one of the few buildings in the park. This small white chapel is a popular spot for wedding photos. Another spectacular sight is Cyclops cave further East in the park. At the headland of Cape Greco is a lighthouse and walkers can also find ruined foundations of an ancient temple devoted to Aphrodite. At the Eastern edge of the park is Konnos Bay, a breathtakingly beautiful beach with crystal clear waters fringed by pine trees.
There are several hiking trails which extend to a length of 16 kilometres. These are signposted and take in all the points of interest in the park. There are also 4 kilometres of bicycle track and a designated picnic area. The rocky seabed and underwater caves encourage a wealth of sea life, making this area a hotspot for both snorkelling and scuba diving. Fishing is also a popular and peaceful way to spend time here.
The centre of Protaras is approximately 5km kilometres away and it is here, right at the heart of the strip where you will find the most well known beach in the area, Fig Tree Bay. With its clear and shallow turquoise sea and fine golden sand, this beach understandably appeals to both visitors and locals alike. By day Protaras is a sleepy beach resort, coming alive after dark and offering a wide range of friendly restaurants, cosy tavernas, bars and shopping opportunities to suit the whole family.
Ayia Napa located approximately 10 kilometres away, which was once a small fishing village has been more recently promoted as a clubbers paradise with a varied and vibrant nightlife concentrated in the towns’ central square. Families are rediscovering the delights of the resort by steering away from the square and spending days on the beautiful blue flag beaches and mellow evenings strolling the pedestrianised harbour area and dining at one its selection of cafes and restaurants.
No Visit to Ayia Napa is complete without some time spent at Nissi Beach. It's not only Ayia Napa's biggest daytime hot spot but one of the most popular beaches on the whole island of Cyprus. Everyday from May until October beach parties are held at the Nissi Bay Beach Bar featuring some of Ayia Napa's best known DJ's as well as guest artists and celebrities. Expect special guest appearances, dance contests, foam parties and all kinds of fun.
Family activities in the area include the magic dancing water show with its spectacular 12 metre high fountains “dancing” to Mozart, Beethoven, Bach and Greek music, visiting the open air sculpture park and a variety of boat trips including the exciting black pearl pirate ship.
Ayia Napa also boasts the biggest themed water park in Europe with exhilarating rides providing fun and entertainment for all age groups. Outdoor activities in the area include mini golf, water-sports, go-karting, horse riding and hiking or cycling along the network of nature trails and specialist cycle paths through the Cape Greco National Park.
