Location
Ayia Thekla is a newly developed, quiet and scenic location just on the outskirts of Ayia Napa. The area has 2 lovely beaches, a restaurant and a supermarket, whilst all the amenities of Ayia Napa are within a 10 minute drive. Named after a small historical church nearby, Ayia Thekla beach is a family beach of soft golden sands and calm waters. Just west of the beach is a beach bar where the weekly market is held year round every Wednesday. Over the last decade the area has become very popular as a residential area and also with holidaymakers wanting to rent a villa in a peaceful location.
Ayia Thekla beach offers water sports facilities and a traditional restaurant with grassy areas for relaxing and enjoying the sun. A small convenience store is located close by, with a wider range of shops and amenities located within a 10 minute drive.
The area is served by the hourly bus from Potamos Liopetriou which runs through the centre of Ayia Napa before heading on to Paralimni village. A further bus service is from the waterpark at the eastern edge of Ayia Thekla.
The Waterworld Themed Water Park is located within 1km from Ayia Thekla and is the biggest themed waterpark in Europe with exhilarating rides providing fun and entertainment for all age groups.
Ayia Napa (approximately 10 kilometres away) once a small fishing village was more recently promoted as a clubber’s paradise with a varied and vibrant nightlife concentrated in the town’s central square. Families are rediscovering the delights of the resort by steering away from the square and spending days on the beautiful blue flag beaches and mellow evenings strolling the pedestrianised harbour area and dining at one its selection of cafes and restaurants.
No Visit to Ayia Napa is complete without some time spent at Nissi Beach. It's not only Ayia Napa's biggest daytime hot spot but one of the most popular beaches on the whole island of Cyprus. Everyday from May until October beach parties are held at the Nissi Bay Beach Bar featuring some of Ayia Napa's best known DJ's as well as guest artists and celebrities. Expect special guest appearances, dance contests, foam parties and all kinds of fun.
The centre of Protaras is approximately 20km kilometres away and it is here, right at the heart of the strip where you will find the most well known beach in the area, Fig Tree Bay. With its clear and shallow turquoise sea and fine golden sand, this beach understandably appeals to both visitors and locals alike. By day Protaras is a sleepy beach resort, coming alive after dark and offering a wide range of friendly restaurants, cosy tavernas, bars and shopping opportunities to suit the whole family.
Family activities in the area include the magic dancing water show with its spectacular 12 metre high fountains “dancing” to Mozart, Beethoven, Bach and Greek music, visiting the open air sculpture park and a variety of boat trips including the exciting Black Pearl Pirate Ship. Ayia Napa also boasts the biggest themed water park in Europe with exhilarating rides providing fun and entertainment for all age groups.
Outdoor activities in the area include mini golf, water-sports, go-karting, horse riding and hiking or cycling along the network of nature trails and specialist cycle paths through the Cape Greco National Park.
